Fiora Machinery has grown from a backyard business that was started in 1978 by brothers Mick and Angelo Fiora. In that year they built the original factory at 46 Morgan St, Cannington and Fiora Metal Products was established.
Early work included customising motorcycles, sheet metal work and producing fans and blowers for mining companies. When the business with mining companies slowed, time was spent designing metalwork machinery such as benders and guillotines. In the early eighties the demand increased and the business expanded with others being employed to cope with the increased interest in these machines.
During this time Fiora Metal Products also became the agents for eastern states machinery companies Hercus and Durden. As a result of these agencies more time was spent on selling machinery as well as the manufacture of Fiora Metal Products. This included starting to supply schools and TAFE Colleges with equipment and in some cases included specialised machines designed and built specifically for the purpose required by the buyer.
The move into supplying machinery continued and during the mid 1980’s Fiora Machinery began importing machinery from overseas, mainly Taiwan and Italy and as a result became agents for more companies, including Runmaster, Wonson and CST.
The late 1980’s saw a shift in the main focus to importing and selling machinery, including those being manufactured by Fiora Metal Products. This change in focus resulted in a new showroom being built at its premises on Sevenoaks St, Cannington. This showroom was opened in 1989 and Fiora Machinery Sales became the name for this branch of the company, while the manufacturing branch remained as Fiora Metal Products.
By the middle of the 1990’s a beneficial relationship with Hare & Forbes, an Eastern States based company, had been established and Fiora Machinery became the Western Australian agent for Hare & Forbes Machinery House (Hafco).
In the late 1990’s the company continued to expand and the land and building next door to the showroom was purchased and extensions began. These extensions were completed and the showroom for Fiora Machinery is now twice the size of the original building and this is how it exists today.
The new millennium saw more shifting and expanding with the manufacturing part of the business being shifted from the original factory to a more convenient location in Hogarth St, Cannington, directly behind the showroom of Fiora Machinery. The existing showroom building was extended and the move to the new premises was completed at the end of 2001.
In 2003 further expansions to the business occurred. Mick Fiora’s interest in building and customising motorcycles led to the decision to expand into building and customising three wheeled motorcycles. Custom Trikes Australia was registered in 2004 and resulted in the development of a low budget trike kit for the home builder. Custom Trikes Australia also provides parts for home trike builders at reasonable prices.
The company has seen a lot of changes over the years since it was established in 1978 and also seen a wide range of business activities. As well as the major business activities of manufacturing machines, the factory and equipment of Fiora Metal Products has also seen the building of custom motorbikes and trikes, aluminium boats, miniature steam locomotives as well as the restoration of cars and motorcycles. The showroom now has an area set aside with vintage cars and oldtime memorabilia for those who are interested.
Trying to resist moving into the phase of internet trading, Fiora Machinery is now upgrading the website in the hope that we can provide a more efficient service for our customers. We hope that we will not lose the personal relationship that has become a trademark of our company.
